About Bartlett Cemetery
Bartlett Cemetery Association was founded in 1899 by some of the most prominent citizens in Amesbury, Massachusetts. The founders included lawyers, judges, doctors, dentists, automobile carriage manufacturers, bank presidents and even a California gold rush 49'er adventurer.
This civic-minded group of men banded together for the sole purpose of purchasing, supporting and maintaining a new cemetery property at the turn of a new century. They wanted a place of solace to memorialize the lives of all individuals entrusted to their care.

An Interesting Fact
The Bartlett Cemetery is named after Dr. Josiah Bartlett (1729-1795), who was born in Amesbury, MA.
In 1776, he signed the Declaration of Independence. Dr. Bartlett was the second person to sign it, after John Hancock.
BUT, the cemetery is not dedicated to him. He is not buried in the Bartlett Cemetery. Dr. Josiah Bartlett spent most of his life in Kingston, NH, where he is buried.
